Horizontal carousels are similar in structure to vertical carousels, just turned on the side. It is usually an oval track with rotating shelved compartments that automatically deliver products to the operator. These carousels can be used as an integrated system or as a solitary machine.
Horizontal carousels are very efficient, not only in their reduction of floor space, but two or more carousels can be combined in a “pod”, and function simultaneously. The operator can pick from one carousel that has brought the desired product to the front, while another carousel is looking for and retrieving a second product. This can reduce operator labor by up to 2/3.
The compartments can be customized to store a variety of materials. Horizontal carousels are ideal for consolidation, split case picking, case handling and sorting requirements.
